🌟 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Liana Ilutzi (HP Class of 2013) 🌟
From the basketball courts of HP to the trading floors of Wall Street! 🏀➡️📈 We are thrilled to feature Liana Ilutzi, a standout alumna who is now making waves in the global energy markets.
The Journey: After graduating from HP in 2013, Liana headed to MIT, where she served as Class President and delivered the commencement speech at graduation! She graduated in 2017 with a BS in Management Science—a shift from her original plan to study neuroscience. 🧠
Current Role: Liana is currently an Executive Director in Energy Derivatives Trading at JP Morgan. ⛽️ She manages the US Refined Product trading business, focusing on gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. Her day-to-day involves modeling supply and demand and analyzing geopolitical events to manage portfolio risk.
Advice for Aspiring Traders: "If you have a real interest in markets, try building your own models and tools to come up with trading strategies. The best way to learn is to practice! Also, network—find alumni on LinkedIn to get real-world insights." 💻🤝
HP Memories & Lessons:
Fondest Memory: Meeting her husband! ❤️ Plus, countless hours in clubs and sports with amazing teammates and coaches.
Life Lesson: Channeling Coach Wear’s wisdom: "There are two things you can do with adversity: you can run from it, or you can face it head on." Liana credits HP for teaching her the resilience needed to tackle problems head-on—a vital skill for a trader!
Teacher Shoutout: Coach Wear sees enough of me during basketball season, so I won’t force him to hang out with me any further…LOL. The other person who inspired me was Mr. Minsavage - he was one of the kindest and brightest people I’ve been lucky to be around. He helped me further understand life’s real priorities— he was a great life and math teacher!!
Surprise Fact: Even as a busy Executive Director, Liana still hits the court and plays basketball every single week! 🏀✨

AP Art History students traveled to the Metropolitan Museum in NYC this past Friday. They had the opportunity to see images and objects made by a variety of cultures over various time periods. Many of the images and objects had been studied throughout the year and included works from ancient Egypt, the Middle East, Greece, Rome, Africa and Oceania.

Hanover Park High School had the honor of welcoming Holocaust survivor and educator Maud Dahme to speak with our students. Born in the Netherlands in 1936, Ms. Dahme shared her powerful story of survival during World War II, when she and her sister were hidden by multiple families to escape Nazi persecution. Our students were deeply engaged and intrigued as she reflected on resilience, courage, and the importance of remembering history so it is never repeated. We are grateful for the opportunity for our Hornets to hear such an important firsthand account and learn the value of empathy, courage, and standing up for others. 🐝

From academic planning and goal setting to conversations about future opportunities, these sessions give students the tools they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
We are grateful for the dedication of our counselors who continuously support, guide, and empower our students on their journey. Their work helps ensure that every Hornet has a clear path forward and the confidence to reach their full potential.
